The reading group grew out of Disciple courses that I helped lead at our Methodist church. Members asked where I was getting my information and my inspiration. It was largely from these books on Progressive Christianity, the Jesus Seminar, and TCPC.

The title reflects the reality that scholarship seminaries have used for at least fifty years has not reached the pew. These books are for people who feel alienation from Christianity, who are searching for a deeper spirituality within Christianity. If this does not speak to you, use your own software, as Joseph Campbell has said. Each of us is journeying like spokes of a wheel to the center, God, from where we are. There is no one "right way."

You may use these guides in any way you want. You could use them as discussion guides for a reading group, circling the questions you like. They could serve as a review or a list of possible reads. The questions themselves may aggravate you or make you want to know more. Good luck in your quest.

Welcome!

My name is Carol Roberts Ballantine.
